San Miguel is a town for slow strolling. The narrow cobblestone streets climb past fine old colonial houses, picturesque churches surrounded by stately patios, and a variety of shops selling traditional pottery, baskets, fabric, and many fine pieces of art, silver, and tile from Oaxaca, Puebla, and other regions. There are many fine restaurants and cafes. Towering over the zocalo (main square) is a 17th Century gothic church that can be seen from any point in the city's surrounding hills.
