Chachagua Rain Forest Hotel
Location: North Central, Arenal National Park

Chachagua Rainforest Hotel Chachagua Rain Forest Hotel is nestled in the eastern foothills of the Tilaran mountain range, one of the most biologically diverse areas in all of Costa Rica. The project is a dream come true for Costa Rican owner Carlos Salazar who, after 25 years in the travel business, decided to concentrate his efforts on developing what for many years has been his own private farm and secluded spot to just get away from it all.

The privately owned and maintained rain forest of Chachagua is contiguous to the International Children’s Rain Forest, which in turn is neighbor the the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. This means that Chachagua is part of a large protected area and helps provide habitat for many of the threatened inhabitants of the rain forest such as tapir, jaguar, ocelot, and peccaries.

Among the many still common species of animals that are residents of the forest at Chachagua the interested observer will likely see white-faced monkeys, keel-billed tourcans, blue morpho butterflies, bright red poison-dart frogs, and much, much more.

Chachagua Rain Forest Hotel is more than just another nature hotel. Certainly the plants and animals that can be encountered along the forest trails will thrill even the most ardent nature lover. But Chachagua Rain Forest Hotel offers much more. Part of the property is still maintained as a working ranch and visitors to Chachagua will be able to see a variety of fruits and vegetables such as pineapple, papaya, manioc, squashes, and black beans growing right on the farm. Beef, poultry, eggs, milk, and cheese are all also produced on the ranch. Who knows, you might even pick part of your own breakfast!

Cattle and horses are an integral part of the ranch, too. Thus the restaurant has been designed overlooking ariding ring so that guests can enoy the morning coffee while admiring expert horsement putting the local mounts through their paces. And of course, horses are available for guests who wish to see the scenic surrounding from the vantage point of a saddle.

Each comfortable and tasefully appointed suite has a private hot water show, ceiling fan, and porch area for relaxed nature viewing. For the traveler who wishes to avoid a lot of packing and unpacking, Chachagua Rain Forest Hotel is a wonderful base of operations for seeing the many fascinating attractions of the San Carlos region which include the majestic Arenal Volcano, the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge, the Venado Caverns, freshwater fishing and windsurfing on Lake Arenal, white water rafting on the Penas Blancas River, and the therapeutic benefits of various hot springs in the area.

Located just two hours away from the bustle of San Jose via paved highway, Chachagua Rain Forest Hotel is at the end of the road. Beyond is a rain forest. Here you will not be overwhelmed by huge numbers of other visitors, you’ll be in your own private paradise. So come get away from it all at Chachagua.
