Trogon Lodge
Location: Central Valley & Highlands, Chirripo and Tapanti National Parks
Trogon Lodge is located in San Gerardo de Dota, near Cerro de la Muerte, approximately 85 km from San Jose, heading southeast on the Pan American Highway. On a family farm in the mountains at 7000 ft. altitude, with 10 rustic and very comfortable cabins with heating, private baths, hot water and delicious home-cooked meals served in a family style restaurant.
This area is a natural habitat for an immense diversity of flora and ecological niche in which the Quetzal remain all year round. These highlands are Costa Rica's largest protected area, composed of 13 different units which sum up a total preserve of 95,000 hectares. In one of the highest points of this Talamanca Mountain range, a large spinal bone of tectonic formation at 10,000 ft. elevation which is part of the Continental Divide, the oldest geological formation in Costa Rica. The cozy and relaxing atmosphere of the Trogon Lodge makes guests feel right at home. The beautiful surroundings provide a unique opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature, as well as discovery of the wonders of Costa Rica's ecology.
The packages offer hikes into the cloud forest of the area and bird watching. Horseback riding is available at extra cost. All these services are conducted and supervised by specially trained guides, using first class equipment and implementing all necessary safety precautions. The Lodge is accessible by bus transfer or driving a car from San Jose. Packages include lodging, all meals, regular tours and specialized bilingual guide.
