The Belmar Hotel is a typical mountain hotel with two separate Swiss chalet style building with wood paneling and French doors. Nestled in the mountains, with an average temperature of 63F, adjacent to the wilderness in an immense tropical rain forest internationally known as one of the world’s premiere wildlife sanctuaries, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve, Hotel Belmar is located 115 miles from San Jose. The last 22 miles is gravel road. This part of the journey will take one and a half hours, passing by the splendid views of the San Luis Valley and the Gulf of Nicoya. Allow about four hours for the journey from San Jose to Monteverde.

In keeping with the peacefulness of the natural setting and it’s inherit beautiful qualities, our philosophy centers on nature, delicious and nutritional meals and new acquaintances. In appreciate of Costa Rica’s natural heritage, meals are prepared with ingredients grown or produced within the country, many locally. Our decoration features the work of Costa Rican artists, handcrafters, and photographers, most of them from this area. The information that follows answers questions about our hotel and also to assist you in anyway we can in planning your activities while in Monteverde.

We have 34 rooms, many with private balcony and spectacular views of the Gulf of Nicoya, others overlooking the tropical rain forest, all of them with French doors. Most of our rooms have a double and single bed, others have single beds. There are four family rooms. All have private hot water showers, a chest of drawers, wall mirror, night tables and a coffee table with two chairs on the balconies. Neither air conditioning nor heating is necessary due to the altitude.

We serve three meals per day (BLD). Meals are prepared according to high nutritional standards, low in sugar, salt and hot spices. We serve fresh homemade whole wheat bread baked daily in our kitchen, steamed vegetables, and fresh Costa Rican grown fruits. The cheese served at meals is made at the local cheese factory 1 1/2 miles away. The coffee served here is roasted in Monteverde from organically grown first quality grain from local mountain slopes. We recommend the use of honey as a sweetener and serve it at all meals. If you health requires a special diet or if you are vegetarian, just let us know and we will arrange a special menu for you.
